🔭 About Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope

Named after NASA’s first chief astronomer—the ‘mother of the Hubble Space Telescope,’ Dr. Nancy Grace Roman—the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is a next-generation NASA observatory designed to settle essential questions in the areas of dark energy, exoplanets, and infrared astrophysics.

Featuring a 2.4-meter primary mirror and a field of view at least 100 times larger than Hubble's, Roman will capture vast panoramic views of the universe with unprecedented detail, potentially measuring light from a billion galaxies over its mission lifetime.

Key Instruments:

  • Wide Field Instrument (WFI): A 300-megapixel infrared camera that will conduct expansive surveys to map dark matter, measure cosmic acceleration driven by dark energy, and execute a comprehensive statistical microlensing census of exoplanets in the Milky Way.
  • Coronagraph Instrument (CGI): An advanced high-contrast starlight-suppression technology demonstration capable of directly imaging and spectroscopically analyzing giant exoplanets and circumstellar debris disks around nearby stars.
